Introducing the new Ballardong ranger team!

The Ballardong ranger team at Wandoo National Park with two Aunty Kathy Davis and Uncle Des Blurton.

Over the last 5 weeks we’ve been putting together our team, led by two senior rangers, Dawn Garlett and Judd Davis. Caitlin Buchanan, Jelissa Pitts, Casey Garlett, Hannahleese Narrier and Felecia (Fifi) Pitt-Ryder, Travis Ryder, Mark Kickett, Daniel Hansen and Roland Loo make up the rest of the team of 11.

The Ballardong ranger program is funded through the DBCA Aboriginal Ranger Program.

The rangers have completed the first two units of Certificate II in Conservation and Ecosystem Management, a DFES bushfire fundamentals course, and attended conferences hosted by the Noongar Language Centre and Karla Katitjin Bushfire Centre of Excellence.

They’ve also been meeting with stakeholders across the region to learn and share knowledge, including the Shire of York and the River Conservation Society.

On Friday, the team did a field trip to Wandoo National Park on Friday with Aunty Kathy Davis and Uncle Des Blurton, pictured here at Mount Observation Lookout.

The board, CAC and BAC team are all very proud of the rangers and the work they have done so far. They’re looking moorditj in their new uniforms and getting noticed around Northam!
