BAC cultural advice committee election
PUBLIC NOTICE FROM THE RETURNING OFFICER
Shawn Boyle and Associates was engaged as the Returning Officer to oversee the Ballardong Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) Cultural Advice Committee Election for 2025.
On the 23rd July 2025, I forwarded to the Selections Committee of the BAC, member nominations for the advertised male and female positions on the Cultural Advice Committee.
I also authorised an extension of time to the nominations process, to allow nominees extra time to submit their National Police Clearances in view of unforeseen delays in the police processing system.
At the end of the Nomination Process, the remaining eligible nominations exactly filled the advertised positions of 3 male members and 2 female members, so I therefore declare the following as duly elected as members of the Ballardong Aboriginal Corporation Cultural Advice Committee in this 2025 election. There is no requirement to proceed to a Ballot process.
Male elected members:
Murray Yarran Jnr
Dennis Kickett
Michael Blurton
Female elected members:
Geraldine Metcalf
Kathleen Davis
This completes the 2025 CAC Election process, and I thank the officers of BAC for their assistance in ensuring an effective election process in accordance with the organisation’s rules.

BAC CAC Elections 2025
What is the CAC?
The cultural advice committee (CAC) is a group of Elders and traditional knowledge holders who consider matters relevant to culture, and provide advice on promoting and protecting our cultural interests.
Matters discussed by the committee include:
Determining what cultural connection exists, or could exist, to support a piece of land being considered ‘cultural lands’ as part of the Noongar Boodja Trust.
Determining who best to speak for country, who have the most knowledge of relevant lands in order for surveys to be properly conducted.
Determining how cultural knowledge should be recorded, and when and how it is shared with others.
Determining how Noongar cultural protocols and practices should be acknowledged, valued, honoured and respected, including through welcome to country practices.
