Ballardong Aboriginal Corporation welcomes new chair, Tracey de Grussa
The Ballardong Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) board has appointed Tracey de Grussa as its new chairperson at its first meeting following the 2024 AGM.
Four new member-elected directors – Ms de Grussa, along with Carol Garlett, Farley Garlett, and Murray Jones – began their terms at the close of the 2024 AGM. They are joined by previously-appointed expert directors Tahnee Davies and Melanie Williams.
Ms de Grussa has more than 8 years of experience in leadership roles, including as a councillor with the Shire of Wongan-Ballidu. She also established and operates Mangaart Miya Nyungar Cultural and Heritage Centre in Ballidu.
“As a passionate advocate for our Ballardong community, I’m deeply committed to integrating our Noongar cultural values and perspectives into BAC's strategic direction, ensuring that we honour our heritage while paving the way for future growth that all Ballardong people will benefit from.
“I’ve been involved with BAC since its inception, and witnessed the dedication and hard work that have brought us through this foundational phase.
“I’m honoured to be leading the organisation through this next critical transition from start-up to a fully established corporation that’s grounded in strong governance, transparency and sustainable growth.
“We will be looking for opportunities to build strategic partnerships and diversify funding sources to increase BAC’s long-term sustainability and enhance the services we’re able to offer for the benefit of BAC members,” said Ms de Grussa.
BAC CEO Mat Wilson congratulated Ms de Grussa on her appointment as BAC’s new chairperson, and welcomed all the new member-elected directors to the board.
“We have a strong and enthusiastic board of directors who all have a demonstrated commitment to the Ballardong mob.
“I’m looking forward to working together as we begin this new phase of our corporation,” he said.
