BAC to pursue renewable energy opportunities on Ballardong Boodja
BAC is leading the way for building renewable energy in the south west, with a new partnership to protect boodja and create wealth for Ballardong people.
This week, BAC signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with specialist climate change investment and advisory firm, Pollination.
This MoU outlines an agreed framework for working together, one that centres Ballardong people's agency and ambition, and an ongoing commitment to free, prior and informed consent throughout the transition to net-zero.
After careful research, the BAC board chose to work with Pollination because they have a strong track record of deep respect for Traditional Owners and their connection to country.
The MoU is a first step in which we agree on the shared values that will inform our ongoing conversations, and how our two organisations will work together through the planning, development and delivery of renewable energy projects on Ballardong Boodja.
These projects will be designed to help restore the ecosystem of Ballardong Boodja and create a more climate resilient future. This will include leveraging carbon and biodiversity markets through habitat and biodiversity restoration, and accelerating the transition to net-zero through green energy projects on Ballardong Boodja.
This agreement has the potential to be a great opportunity for our Ballardong mob, and the future of our planet. Our two organisations will lead the transition to net-zero in a way that respects boodja, and creates profits that will stay here on Ballardong boodja to benefit our people for generations to come.
“Our two organisations will continue to work together at the speed of trust,” said Rob Grant, Head of Project Investments at Pollination.
“This is an opportunity for Ballardong to act from a position of strength to care for country and create wealth for our mob,” chairperson Tracey de Grussa said.
“25 years ago, we started a journey of walking together at Corrobree 2000. This last day of Reconciliation Week, with the theme of 'Bridging Now to Next', is the perfect day to begin this new journey of working together to build a healthier, more prosperous future for us all.”
